Preparation and evaluation of a new erythromycin derivative -- erythromycin taurate.
Erythromycin taurate, a new derivative of erythromycin, was prepared by reacting erythromycin base with tauric acid and its physico-chemical and biological properties were evaluated. The derivative has reasonably good solubility in organic solvents. The partition coefficient values in chloroform/water 1.17 and octanol/water 1.16 systems indicate its good distribution in various tissues in vivo....
متن کاملA new look at erythromycin.
This article reviews the current place of erythromycin in antibiotic therapy. Overall, erythromycin is thought to be underused because: (1) the fear of resistance has been exaggerated; (2) significant toxicity has been associated with only one derivative (the estolate); (3) newer antibiotics have very rarely been demonstrated to be superior to erythromycin. Erythromycin has an important place i...
متن کاملA novel erythromycin, 6-desmethyl erythromycin D, made by substituting an acyltransferase domain of the erythromycin polyketide synthase.
The acyltransferase (AT) domain in module 4 of the erythromycin polyketide synthase (PKS) was substituted with an AT domain from the rapamycin PKS module 2 in order to alter the substrate specificity from methylmalonyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA. The resulting strain produced 6-desmethyl erythromycin D as the predominant product. This AT domain swap completes the library of malonyl-CoA AT swaps on the ...
متن کاملErythromycin A 11,12-methylene acetal.
Erythromycin A 11,12-methylene acetal (5) and the corresponding 9-methoxime, 9-dihydro, and 8-hydroxy derivatives have been prepared and their antibacterial activities compared with those of erythromycin A and its 11,12-cyclic carbonate. The simple methylene acetal 5 showed excellent activity against Gram-positive organisms in vitro.
متن کاملA new colorimetric method for the assay of erythromycin.
A chemical assay method which depends upon the development of intense absorption at 485 nm has been found satisfactory for the assay of erythromycin and its stearate from tablets, suspensions and other preparations. Its utility is brevokable for the determination of this antibiotic at all stages of manufacture, process and formulation, and it is more rapid and reproducible than the bioassay (JP...
